It’s time for back to school. Capture your child at the start of their school year by creating a back to school scrapbook layout. Don’t know where to start? Start simple.
For the layout at the right, one photo was used. A background paper with brown and blue was used to enhance the photo with colors of blue, green, yellow, and brown. Choose a simple background paper so, the photo will stand out. Remember, the photo is the main attraction of the school layout.
Now that the background paper has been selected, look at your photo and decide what kind of treatment you want to give to the photo. A pale white “4 x 6” frame was chosen for this layout. A simple frame was chosen so not to take away from the colors in the photo.
The layout is all about the first day of school. Choosing embellishments and paper die cuts are always fun when creating a layout. Choose embellishments and die cuts to enhance your page. Embellishments and die cuts are used to get a response of WOW. When most people look at a page in a scrapbook, it’s not always the photo that gets there attention as much as what is used on the page to get a response.
Since the photo is showing the first day of school, embellishments were chosen to represent the day. A school days embellishment was chosen along with a chalkboard, crayons, and A, B, C. To add a bit more color, and to add dimension to the layout leaf paper die cuts were created as an extension of the photo. Taking the elements from the photo, this being the leaves in the background and the colors is an added dimension to the layout.
The bottom line is, you want to create a scrapbook layout that has a cohesive look. Fun background pages, frames, and embellishments and die cuts to help depict the story you are trying to tell. More importantly, have fun with your pages.
